More than 200,000 Australians are living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a condition that affects an individual’s ability to communicate and interact with others.

Luke Priddis Foundation (LPF) is a non-profit organization that has been working to improve the lives of young people with ASD.

With Cogniss’ support, LPF will be moving away from its current paper-based format of delivering social stories — narratives that describe various social scenarios for young people with ASD. These narratives teach essential social-emotional skills such as making friends, coping with changes, and controlling impulses.

Delivering these stories via an app can not only make them more interactive and engaging but also improve learning outcomes.

During a recent workshop with Cogniss, the team at LPF participated in an exercise to create story apps. Brittany Talab, LPF’s General Manager, said, “We enjoyed creating the apps with the Cogniss team. The experience to be part of finding creative, modern solutions for our clients is what excites us here at LPF.

“The app allows our clients and therapists to use technology to communicate and problem solve. This tool and skill will benefit many clients, their families, and their therapists.”

LPF also plans to educate young people with ASD to create their own Cogniss apps so they can create social stories and share their experiences with others.

We are excited to support LPF in its vision of providing these young people a better chance at living independently.
