“On Tuesday the 6th of September 2022, REX Energy switched on our first autonomous renewable energy power plant for multi-tenant properties. After only 1.5 years from seed funding, the “Renewable Energy eXchange” product has gone live. The site conversion took a total of six hours and then went live under the control of our X1 software and the Renewable Energy eXchange. The system now supplies 94% of the site’s total energy requirements from onsite generated and stored renewable energy. The Renewable Energy eXchange generates approximately $30,000 in annual revenue for REX Energy, increasing at a rate of 3% per annum for a total lifecycle revenue of AUD 1.03m.  Tenants of the site are now receiving carbon-free energy and saving a minimum of 20% on their energy bills.”

  • Location: Loganholme, Queensland
  • Services 6 industrial tenants
  • 64kW system
  • The project cost: $120k
  • Return: $30,000 per annum (Increases @ 3% per annum)
  • ROI: 4 years / .25% return per annum
  • Total revenue for life of system: AUD 1,030,542
  • Life of system investment multiplier = x 8.58

REX Energy has switched on its first autonomous renewable energy power plant for multi-tenant properties. After years of hard work, the “Renewable Energy eXchange” product has finally gone live. It went live under the control of the X1 software and the Renewable Energy eXchange. The system will soon supply 94% of the site’s total energy requirements from onsite generated and stored renewable energy.

What you can expect in the coming weeks:

  1. The X1 software will need to be debugged and adjusted to suit the site’s equipment behaviour. As this is our X1 software’s first real-world deployment, expect that we will need to make adjustments. You can expect to see a real-time dashboard available within a week (+/-) of this evening.
  2. Battery integration: The REX Energy team will install the battery and battery inverter within two weeks (+/-).
  3. The tenancy app will take some time to solidify as we have not had the data points available until we installed and commissioned our first Renewable Energy eXchange. Expect our team to tackle this with haste.

This project results in:

  • A twenty-five-year “Energy as a service” revenue stream for REX Energy
  • Significant savings for the tenants
  • Reduced carbon emissions
  • Deloading the local energy grid
  • Zero export to the energy grid once X1 software goes live
  • One communal solar system and battery feed over 94% of the site’s total energy requirements.

Future R&D:

  • REX Energy plans to integrate EV charging capabilities into the system so EVs do not charge from the grid, only from our onsite energy storage. Charging EVs from our onsite battery mitigates peak energy disruption of the energy grid and ensures EVs actually run on clean energy.

What comes next?

  • SALES SALES SALES!
    • The team will now begin to sell the system across our region and beyond.
      • The pipeline is already growing.
    • Our objective is to reach positive cash flow within eighteen months.

  • REX Energy will also begin the process of improving our software & hardware
    • REX Energy will focus heavily on our software and its overall functionality.
    • Improve the customer and tenant UX/UI experience.
    • Minimise the time spent in the field installing our integration system (presently a one-day install).
