Nevhouse to Build 40 ‘Safe Houses’

The Vanuatu Government, through the Minister of Education Alfred Carlot, has launched what is considered as an efficient housing solution to people who lost their homes in natural disasters such as the tropical cyclone Pam.

This solution is a model for a ‘safe house’ invented by Nevhouse, a Singapore-based company with its operational office in Gold Coast, Australia.

The model, which can be found at the Vanuatu Qualification Authority premises in Port Vila, can be used as a community centre or classroom designed to withstand a category 5 cyclone.

According to the company’s chairperson and founder, Nev Hyman, the flat packed material was built out from plastic recycled waste and sustainable timbers. It was completed in just five days but could last 100 years or more.
