The Brisbane founder, venture capital pioneer and former Sunshine Energy chair will help business owners and their advisers test whether employee ownership can give an owner certainty of value on exit.
Brisbane, 6 November 2026: Valloop Australia has appointed founder, investor and company chair Michael Sidney Myer, a grandson of department store founder Sidney Myer, as Senior Advisor, Australia.
His father, the late Ken Myer, co-founded The Myer Foundation in 1959. The Myer family set up one of Australia’s first single family offices in 1976.

Mr Myer will work with business owners, management teams and their advisers on employee ownership transitions. He will assess whether each business is ready, including the quality of its earnings, the integrity of its forecasts and its growth risk.
He brings four decades of building, funding and exiting businesses across property, technology, venture capital and clean energy. He co-founded Queensland venture capital firm CM Capital, one of five managers licensed in the first round of the Federal Government’s Innovation Investment Fund in 1998.
He recently retired as chair of clean energy developer Sunshine Energy. On his watch it grew into a portfolio of clean energy, green fuels and long-duration storage projects across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.
Earlier, he developed Sunrise at 1770 at Agnes Water. The sustainable community won state and national awards from the Urban Development Institute of Australia.
“Owners want to talk to someone who has been where they are,” said Hunter Page, CEO and Managing Director of Valloop Australia. “Michael has sat on every side of the table, as founder, investor, chair and buyer. He understands the numbers, and he understands what it means to hand over a business you have spent your life building. And as a Myer, he has seen what it takes to carry a founder’s legacy across generations.”
“Who owns the business next is one of the biggest decisions a founder will make,” Mr Myer said. “My family has lived with that question since my grandfather opened his first store in Bendigo. Employee ownership gives owners another path. They can realise the value they have built and leave the business in the hands of the people who helped build it. I want to help owners and their advisers work out early whether that path fits.”
The appointment comes as a generation of Australian business owners plans its exit. More than one in five small business owners is aged 60 or over, according to 2023 research by the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman.
Valloop Australia’s model pairs an employee ownership trust with a corporate guarantee over the deferred payments owed to the exiting owner. Founders gain certainty of value, and their teams gain a credible path to ownership.
In July, Valloop Australia completed its first Australian transaction. The $19 million employee ownership transition of a Victorian energy-efficiency business closed 47 days after signing, with about 70 per cent of the price deferred and secured by Valloop’s guarantee.
Mr Myer is based in Brisbane and will work with owners and advisers across Australia.
