Australian Football Consortium in the running to buy English League One team Charlton Athletic

Following over four years of less than perfect management and operational cost struggles, Charlton Athletic owner, Roland Duchâtelet, is in conversations to sell the team to the highest bidder. Duchâtelet, a Belgian millionaire, has faced disgruntled fans and protests over his years in management due to his operational cost decisions.

In the running for the ownership of Charlton Athletic, also known as the Addicks, is the Australian Football Consortium (AFC). AFC is one of three bidders in the sale confirmed by Charlton’s representative in the takeover, Lieven de Turck.

Based on a Deloitte Feasibility study, AFC will incorporate the best global sports management and science practices. AFC also plans to create a world-class training facility at the training ground to develop young talent.
