KEY TAKEAWAY:

  • First Graphene Limited (ASX: FGR) announce advancement in the design and installation of equipment and the scaling up of the manufacturing process in the BEST Battery technology project with Swinburne University of Technology.
  • The circuitry design has improved to allow the use of 25 lasers simultaneously.
  • BEST Battery project confirmed to be at the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4.

First Graphene Limited has provided a positive update concerning the progress made by the BEST Battery Supercapacitor project with the Swinburn University of Technology. The Project involves using layers of graphene oxide to create nanopores. The nanopores store electric ions at an energy density level ten times that of existing supercapacitors. The BEST batteries can be recharged with a fraction of the time, having a potential life of at least ten times that of lithium-ion batteries.

First Graphene earns 70% interest in the private company that has an exclusive international licence to the BEST Battery. The project has seen the expansion in the process of circuitry from the use of single lasers to the circuitry design that enables the use of 25 lasers simultaneously. They have also announced the improved mechanical strength, enhanced current collectors of the pouch by vacuum sealing process and Swinburn has advanced the automation process.

First Graphene and the Swinburne University of Technology have used the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) method to provide an understanding of the technology’s status. The Best Battery Technology project is confirmed to be at the TRL 4 level and is now aiming to continue on toe TRL 5 which included the tested of the technology in the intended environment.
