Mobilicom has been selected as the communication component for unmanned Cormorant cargo a casualty evacuation drone, developed by Tactical Robotics Ltd (TRL). The Cormorant is a patented vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned drone. It is a cost-effective alternative to helicopter fleets which are the norm for emergency situations. Mobilicom is best known for their MESH network system that allows for a connected network without the need for phone towers. Mobilicom’s Communications Units (MCUs) suit the emergency mission context of the Cormorant due to its secured and private network.

The Cormorant completed a successful first mission demonstrating its capabilities. It allows for the evacuation of two casualties at once as well as the ability to deliver food, water and medical supplies directly to the affected site. It can function in day-to-day routines as well as challenging situations such as earthquakes and nuclear incidents. Urban Aeronautics Ltd will use the Cormorant as the platform for the development of the of the flying car, CityHawk.
