Start-ups have been the flavour of this second decade of the new millennium and Horizon State is just another name on the list, but with a difference. As a start-up that managed to raise a whopping $1.4 million within two weeks, Horizon State has claimed to democratize the process of democracy. It is for this reason that this blockchain-based software set-up has been hailed by The Australian as being seminal in the way people vote in future.
As per co-founder Jamie Skella, the software team at Horizon State has created a voting platform which is not just secure in terms of concealing the voter’s identities but also convenient and affordable. The underlying intention is to create a channel that would facilitate voting on sensitive issues a quick, cheap and hassle-free process. An added advantage is the ability to vote on key concerns as and when they arise rather than waiting for years to be able to make your opinion known.
The inspiration for creating this platform was derived by Jamie Skella from his personal experience of first taking a long time to enrol into a voting list, and second incurring undue expenses that render the process unattractive to the common person. In contrast, the system developed by Horizon State would not just bring down the cost to a fraction but also smoothen out the inefficiencies and render the process more transparent.
Such is the co-founder’s faith in Horizon State’s technology that he claims the same-sex marriage survey would have been cheaper by a factor of at least 10 had it been conducted through this platform.
