KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Cryptocurrency micro-investment app Bamboo is simplifying the process of cryptocurrency investment to appeal to the masses.
  • The app, modelled on the successful Raiz Investment app, allows users to invest the spare change from online transactions into cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin.
  • The app will launch in Australia late 2018.

Micro-investment cryptocurrency app, Bamboo, aims to simplify cryptocurrency and make it more accessible to the average person. Launching in Australia in late 2018, Bamboo allows users to invest the small change from their electronic transactions into share portfolios.

Bamboo will then invest the small change into cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin. The model is based upon the widely successful Raiz Invest App (formerly Acorns). Further down the track, Bamboo CEO Phil George is looking to extend the micro investment to wider plains including commodities and real estate. Bamboo aims to break down the barriers to cryptocurrency investment and blockchain technology, with the two now well understood outside of the financial sector.

The term is ‘democratising finance’ – making the process easier for more people to get involved as opposed to being accessible only to high net worth clients. Instead of being viewed as it is currently a complex and highly technical process, Bamboo will break down the barriers to make it more consumer-friendly and accessible to the masses. All it takes is a
spare $5.
