KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Israeli company Airobotics has raised a total of $61 million through the three series of funding which started in May 2015.
  • Airobotics has raised $32.5 million in its Series C funding with BlueRun Ventures China taking the lead.
  • Airobotics is a world-leader in the operations of fully-automated drones, and the first company in the world to get a license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI) to operate a pilot-free drone.

Drone-making startup company Airobotics is eyeing to expand into homeland defence and security as it received $32.5 million during the Series C round of funding. To date, it has raised a total of $61 million.

Aerobotics is an Israeli company that produces drone solutions including software engineering, aerospace hardware design and electronic systems. The company, which completed Series A round in May 2015 with $6 million and series B round in February 2016 with $22.5 million, intends to expand its business globally as it concludes Series C.

The company’s fully-automated drones has not only improved the efficiency of drone operations, but it has also reduced its cost and the risks involved. It is considered a leader when it comes to automated drones, and the first company in the world to be licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI) to operate fully-automated drones.

“We are thrilled to lead this round of investment,” BlueRun Ventures China Executive Director Jiajie Wu said. “Airobotics is a game changer, which has successfully matched revolutionary drone technologies with real industrial needs. In addition to its existing customer base in Western countries, we believe Airobotics will see substantial opportunities in Asia, which is one of the world’s largest industrial markets.”

BlueRun Ventures China led the Series C round which also involved OurCrowd.comm, Microsoft Ventures, and an unnamed strategic investor.

Airobotics CEO and co-founder Ran Krauss said his company’s vision goes beyond defense and industrial use as it plans to take advantage of Microsoft’s cloud computing, analytics and image recognition. These massive industries are just the company’s stepping stone towards the cities.

“When you talk about flying in cities, I don’t think that tech, or even regulation, are the barriers. I believe that the public is the barrier: when we talk about package delivery from Amazon i’m not sure that people would be happy with massive fleets of drones just to get their packages quicker,” Krauss said.
